Questions
What is Redan?
Redan is the SEC examination defense platform for registered investment advisers. It covers the three disciplines that appear on every exam checklist: marketing material compliance (Advertising Rule), vendor due diligence (third-party oversight), and compliance training. Every review leaves a forensic record. All three products build into the Blue Folio — the complete exam defense document, assembled automatically from your work.
Which product should we start with?
Most firms start with MRC — the Advertising Rule is the most active examination area since 2022 and the compliance documentation burden is well-defined. VDD and Training can be added incrementally. All three are available on the same platform at flat per-module pricing.
Why do I need this if I already have a compliance review process?
Most compliance review processes confirm that a review happened. What the SEC asks for in an examination is why each determination was made — the written reasoning, the specific evidence, the chain of custody. If your process doesn't capture that contemporaneously, you'll be reconstructing documentation after the exam letter arrives. Redan builds the record at the moment of approval, so it's already done.
How is this different from just storing files in SharePoint or Google Drive?
SharePoint stores files. Redan stores relationships. The forensic value isn't in having a performance report — it's in being able to prove that a specific claim in a specific deck was substantiated by that specific report, reviewed by a specific CCO, approved on a specific date with specific written reasoning. That linked chain is what the SEC examines. A folder of files doesn't provide it.
Can the evidence files be edited or deleted?
No. Redan uses WORM-compliant (Write Once Read Many) storage. Evidence files are INSERT-only — once uploaded, they cannot be altered or deleted. This is enforced at the database policy level, not just the application layer. The same applies to CCO determination records and audit log entries.
Do we need to backfill our historical materials?
No. Start with new materials going forward. The SEC evaluates your current systems and controls — implementing a proper substantiation process now demonstrates a culture of compliance, even without historical records. We recommend a "day forward" approach: every new asset gets the full Redan treatment from upload.
How long does it take to get set up?
A single firm is provisioned in under 30 minutes. We handle setup, user creation, and an onboarding walkthrough. Your team can start uploading the same day.
What does the Blue Folder contain?
The Blue Folder is a self-contained forensic export containing: every marketing claim flagged in the asset, each claim's supporting evidence file(s), the CCO's written approval reasoning for each claim, timestamps and chain of custody, and SHA-256 cryptographic verification. It requires no login to review — you hand it to an SEC examiner as a standalone document.
What does it cost?
Flat per-firm pricing. MRC Platform from $3,500/month. VDD Platform $2,000/month. Training Platform $1,500/month. No per-seat fees. See /pricing for details.
